Walderton and Adsdean Circular Walk is a 5. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. A relatively short walk in West Sussex, this circuit is partly through woods walderton also providing expansive views down to Chichester Harbour and The Solent west places. There are two moderate climbs, one at the beginning of the walk and one a short distance after the start. There are a couple of stiles to negotiate and four kissing gates.
You should not meet any cattle or sheep, but you are likely to pass some pigs which are fenced off by electric fences. Walderton is on the B between Racton and Walderton Marden. The walk starts at the junction between this road and the road to Stoughton. At the junction, and adjacent to a sign warning of horse riders, a smart new galvanised kissing gate marks the start and later the end of the walk. Pass through the gate and, keeping walderton the barbed wire west on the left, walk 50 metres to a similar kissing gate at the other side of this short field. Go through the second kissing gate and onto a track west has a barbed wire fence on the left and a hedge of bushes and small trees on the right.
The path climbs at a moderate rate for nearly metres before emerging onto a Public Way. Turn left on this Public Way. Walk down this stone track as it bears to the right and slowly descends.
After metres, as the track turns 90 degrees to the left, turn sussex by a large Forestry Commission sign onto a track and into a wood. Wood to Ruin. After entering the wood, the track climbs steadily. Stay with the main track and do NOT take the left-hand track which leaves shortly after the start. After approximately metres, as the track turns slightly to the left, look out for a blue waymarker pointing up a narrow path on the right. Keep a sharp lookout for this path as it sussex a little indistinct.
Turn right here, go ahead for a few paces then turn right at a three-way fingerpost. Follow this bridleway for metres where the path passes by some derelict farm buildings on your right. Ruin to Barn. As you pass the ruins of the farm buildings, the path turns to the left. Do NOT take this turning, but rather go straight ahead crossing the walderton which is to the sussex of a five bar gate in front of you. Ahead is a view down across Walderton Harbour and out into the Solent.
Continue, now downhill, across a field staying by a fence on your right, to reach a stile by a two way fingerpost at the bottom after some metres.
Cross over the stile and onto a very wide grass path which, at the time of writing, was guarded by an electric fence on both sides which keep pigs at bay.
After some metres, the wide grassy track meets a farm track. Bear right onto this new track, now with a few sporadic trees on your left. Continue on this track for some metres until you reach a couple of barns on your left. As sussex come along this section, there are views of Adsdean House on your right. Barn to Adsdean. As you reach the last of the barns on your left, turn left to continue on a path that goes between the end of the barn and walderton tree line.
Cross the short field, keeping to the tree sussex on your right. After metres, and before reaching the end of the field, follow a narrow path into the trees walderton a two way fingerpost and emerge onto a bridleway at a three way fingerpost after a short distance. Turn right onto the new track. After metres the bridleway meets a tarmac drive.
Bear right onto the drive and follow it for about metres until the drive meets a narrow sussex at a cottage opposite. Turn right onto the road. Follow this single west road with an open wooden fence on the right and a barbed wire fence on the left for some metres passing, the drive to Adsdean Walderton on your right along the way. At this point you have reached Adsdean House on your right, so a little about this building. Adsdean Estate has been in existence since shortly after the Norman Conquest and by the 12th century was part of the estate of the Earl of Arundel - only being sold off in There have been a number of previous buildings on the site and the west house was completed in Early in the 20th century the house was rented by Earl Mountbatten of Burma as he later became and his young family.
It was safe from bombings but very remote and not accessible by public transport. The home closed on 21st July and is now flats. Adsdean to West. As the drive to Adsdean House bears right, bear left onto walderton stone track. Follow this track for 1.
